Cup-Cake is a cockatiel chick that I feel a very special connection with. We don't know if Cup-Cake is male or female, it is really young. But for some reason, I like to call Cuppy a 'he', so that is what I call him! Cup-Cake (sometimes called Cuppy-Cake, or Cuppy) was laid and hatched to a female Normal Grey hen named Grey Grey, and a male Pied cock, named Diablo. Grey Grey is a very good mommy, and takes care of Cuppy very well. She actually tries to attack any bird that comes near the nest box. Diablo, he is well... a little abusive. He is a very good daddy to Cuppy, and the others, but sometimes he doesn't want to switch places with Grey Grey, so he resorts to attacking her. Cup-Cake was named by me because he was bald, and yellow and pink like a cupcake! And I was the first to see him.

Cuppy is quite unique in many different ways. One is that Cuppy was the first hatched. He was actually a delayed egg for three days, and I thought he was DIS (Dead In Shell), but one morning, I see Diablo helping him out! I went to go check on Diablo and Grey Grey, and I heard a crunchy noise. They never make that sound when switching eggs, so I was freaked! I called my mom, and she thought I was crazy. She opened the nest box to go check, and what do you know? Cuppy was half out of his egg shell, and Diablo was helping him out of his shell. It was a very magical moment, one you can never replace.

And, apparently, Cuppy is a huge jokester! He makes ticking sounds, like a bomb. We are thinking of naming him Boom, or maybe Bomb, but I like Cup-Cake better. He is also a very stylish little bird! Grey Grey and Diablo haven't ate the egg shell yet, so we have a egg shell that is cut in half still in the nest box. I checked on Cuppy because I didn't hear his ticking noise, and I looked in, and he was wearing on of the half egg shells on his head as a hat! He looked drunk, swaying side to side. He is a very funny little dude! Especially since he is bald!

Cup-Cake is a Thanksgiving baby, literally! The day after Thanksgiving, on a Friday, he was hatched. He was laid Tuesday, November Fourth, 2008, and was hatched Friday, November Twenty Eighth, 2008. As you can see, he was a little late. We thought that he was DIS (Dead In Shell), but he is apparently a fighter, and hatched when we least expected it. It will be easy to remember his hatchday!

As you, as well as anyone could see, Cuppy is a very special little chick. And, if I could pick any one to keep, it would be Cup-Cake. I will post some images of him, Grey Grey, Diablo, and the other eggs in a little bit.

And you can see more of Cup-Cake in my pictures. I will try to get more of him by his self, and more of Grey Grey, the mom. If you look at the pictures of them closely, you can tell that another one is hatching, so we will have two babies!
